Spice Girls Musical Viva Forever opens to keen crowds and unimpressed critics

Dec 23rd, 2012

Viva Forever (the musical based on the Spice Girls hits) opened in London's Piccadilly Theatre last week. The musical, written by Jennifer Saunders (of Absolutely Fabulous) and Judy Craymer (responsible for Mamma Mia) was well received by the audience, who reportedly danced in the aisles, but critics were less impressed with reactions ranging from cool to outright negative.

The opening of the musical was not without controversy with Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Melanie Brown all arriving together and posing for photos arm in arm - whilst Victoria Beckham arrived separately on the arm of her husband (David Beckham) with boys in toe.

There has been a great deal of speculation since the opening that the Spice Girls will reunite in 2013 - with some saying this will take place with a stand in replacement for Victoria Beckham. This has been broadly denied by the girls.

In any case - time will tell whether the musical is a success and a bit of spice style gossip will make for entertaining reading!
